The program will focus on the folkloric Okinawan dance and music. There will be an audience participation in Kachashi, uniquely Okinawan improvisational dance after a brief instruction. On August 23rd, we had a performance at a street fair in Manhattan. We played for one hour on a stage on the Japanese block of the fair. The performance was popular. The audience grooved to the music we played. The members were Saburo Ochiai, Nobuko Miyazaki (bamboo Flute), Nobu Kinjyo, Morio Shiroma (previous president of OAANY), and NY Sanshin Shinka. The first song was ‘Kashikaki’, a classical Okinawan song, performed solo by Mr. Ochiai. Then he played a few more classical songs.
