Dear members and friends, Greetings ! I hope this letter finds you all in good health. 皆さん お元気ですか? There are many pictures from the Spring Party. This year our program was a little bit shorter, however our staff was very comfortable and relaxed from start to finish. A special thank you to Ivan, his engineer uncle “Javier” and the rest of the youth group, who ran the sound system smoothly. Thank you to Hiro Keitora san who taught our youth about sound system operation. A great appreciation to our receptionists, Suga Tsuji, Sayaka Buchannan, Michiko Charley, Kazue Charley, Shoko Rodriguez, and others. 謝々! Annual Picnic of OAANY Sunday, September 5th (Labor Day weekend!) Time: From Noon until Sundown — See the direction to the picnic location in the page. (About 4 miles north from Mitsuwa みつわ Store on the rivers side) For Transportation Contact: Mrs. Setsuko Matsukawa Member $5, non-member $10; the bus leaves at 11 a.m. at the front of JAA (above). Mr. Ryotoku Okuma, Former Treasurer, moves to Hawaii

Mr. Okuma, thank you very much for your support for all these years. Kari-! To your new home in Hawaii! Mr. Ryotoku (“Ryo”) Okuma moved to Hawaii on 24 June. Originally a native of Hawaii, he moved to Okinawa while in grade school where he continued his Education. Finally graduated from Tokyo’s Waseda University with a major in economic policy. He married to Emiko san from Nago and lived in New York for many years. Last year, Emiko san passed away and Mr. Okuma decided to return to his homeland. He has many relatives in Hawaii. The first thing I thought when I heard about the JST was “I wish I still was that age so I can participate.” One day, I got a phone call from Teiko san in the morning and she said that my sister (Yuki Kikuyama) was selected as a participant for this year. They said that to qualify as a participant Japanese/English bi-lingual student has priority, so I suggested both my little sister and my little brother to apply.
