The meaning of the Okinawan phrase “Chimugukuru” is one of the topics among the association members. For a long time, I have been thinking about it.   Now I am ready to share my ideas. Several years ago, one of our association members, asked me about the meaning of “Chimugukuru.” He was a young Japanese man who was born and raised on the Japanese mainland. Time to Get-Together: March 22 (Sunday) at NikkeiJin Kaikan

As usual we will have Sanshin, dance, TaiChi, Okinawan Ho-gen lesson, etc… and this time we will have something special!— It’s a cooking lesson by the Fujinbu (Mrs. Setsuko M.) Setsuko san will teach us “Imumoochi Tempura-” (Setsuko style), which is very popular among OAANY. In the future we will have sewing and craft, etc… We welcome your new ideas to share with others at each general meeting. Please bring your Potluck, your favorite dish to share with others. Dear Diary: During lunch break on a recent Tuesday, I walked to nearby Central Park. To my surprise, the coffee stand by the Duck Pond was open for business. Normally, except on weekends, during the winter, the stand is closed. Not expecting the stand to be open I hadn’t brought any money. I reached into the deep pockets of my nurse’s uniform and discovered four quarters and a dollar bill.
